In October, San Diego Cannabis Times analyzed cannabis stock levels across San Diego County, with an eye toward comparing the figures and gaining perspective on retailer stock gains or losses 4 months later. We’ve again updated those reports as a means of tracking growth or reduction in 6 categories, Flower, Prerolls, Edibles, Vape Products, Concentrates, and Beverages.
Since October, San Diego cannabis retailers carry 26% more products. The Flower category still reigns supreme with over 23,000 products (up 13%) followed by the fastest growing category, vape pens with 17,000 items (up 24.5%.)
Edibles take up 17.98% of the market, with prerolls, concentrates and beverages bringing up the rear.
When asked about his stores’ growth, Wellgreens Sam Hallak said SKU numbers are not really a priority. “It’s more about our budtenders ability to know our product roster well and thus better assist the customer.” said Hallak.
Many factors go into choosing a cannabis dispensary. And there are good reasons to visit a small dispensary: Budtenders are more likely to know their product really well for one. Location and value also come into play. But at some point, selection plays a role in deciding which dispensary to visit. And since it’s an objective means of comparison, trends can be spotted, for both retailers and product categories.
