Josh Caruso hasn’t been sleeping much. Since Farmers Cup Awards Sesh was green lighted for Vista’s Moonlight Amphitheater, Caruso has been in a frenzy leading up to the Saturday’s event.

“It’s been non-stop for months, but once we got the the last signature on February 4 it’s been nuts. But good nuts, you know what I mean? We are sold out on booths, and ticket sales are are killing it.”

Farmers Cup has been hosting private events for years, but when the city of Vista green lighted cannabis consumption events on city property, Caruso readied his application to host Farmers Cup Awards Sesh at Moonlight Amphitheater in Brengle Terrace Park.

The event will be open to the public with cannabis consumption allowed, and is built around a cannabis product competition. Categories include best indoor grown flower, outdoor grown flower, extracts, edibles and more.

While the awards take center stage at 4:30 (just 10 minutes after a planned crowd smoke out at 4:20) live music sets will start and then wind down the day culminating with a set by Berner at 8:00 PM.

Farmers Cup will feature on site cannabis sales and consumption, product activations,

One feature will be the VIP Lounge area, sponsored by Sessions by the Bay. The soon-to-open consumption lounge and dispensary  in National City will provide a sneak preview of its interior design.

It should come as no surprise the county’s first cannabis event on public property will take place in Vista. The city of 98,000 has long been at the fore of cannabis normalization, being the first city in North County to allow retail cannabis sales.

Former council member Joe Green has been the city’s de facto cannabis ambassador for years, and Farmers Cup will be a crowning achievement for his stewardship.

“After years of working on a cannabis policy that not only protects the community but benefits it economically, Saturday’s Farmers Cup is the fruition of those early policies. Ideally it will be a model for other cities, but also at the county level.” said Green.
