Retailers, especially those offering a limited number of goodie bags, saw lines not only out the door, but well into adjacent parking lots and along streets in City Heights. Operators reported as much as 3x the normal units sold as a typical Saturday, outpacing the California average of 202% of units sold. Sam Hallak of Wellgreens said his chain saw 250% of a normal Saturday, across the county. Kevin Hana of Buzz Cannabis said the increase in his Mission Valley location was close to 300%. Hana went on “420 was great that people got to buy cannabis legally and comfortably and everyone was happy which made it great for us.”

Statewide, California saw a 207% revenue boost vs regular saturday. Drilling down by category, Flower still reigns supreme, accounting for 40% of all sales. The relatively new Beverages segment performed well while the normally reliable vape pen category did not. The Golden State also saw a decline in overall revenues, down from $34 million in 2023 to $27.2 million this year.
