Vista City Council Unanimously Approves Cannabis Ordinances

Vista approves cannabis ordinances: Cannabis ordinances played a major role in last night’s Vista City Council meeting, with the council voting 5-0 in favor of items relating from indoor cultivation licensing to consumption events in Brengle Terrace Park. Public use of cannabis tax revenues was also on the docket. The city recently awarded $500,000 in cannabis tax revenue to its merit and recreational scholarship funds for Vista students.

The council also approved extending operating hours for adult recreational use from 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM.

Discussion of indoor cultivation licensing resulted in approval of a maximum of 3 licenses, including a minimum of 1 social equity license. Licences will be awarded by lottery. Equity applications are being accepted now, with more information here. After this vote, in-person attendees learned the public Zoom link was down, disrupting virtual commenting.

Cannabis events on public property also consumed a considerable amount of time. In a revenue sharing agreement between the city and a prescreened cannabis event promotion, the city will allow up to 2 events in the city’s Brengle Terrace Park. These events can be up to 2 days in duration.
