Union Cannabis Workers at Eaze are United for a Just Contract

By Grant Tom

Unionized workers at Eaze stand united, unwavering in their demand for a fair and just contract. Represented by UFCW Locals 5, 135, 324, and 770, these cannabis workers, are sending a clear message to the CEO of Eaze: negotiate fairly with the union immediately.

Their ranks comprise nearly 30 dedicated workers on the statewide bargaining committee, representing approximately 700 colleagues across 11 California Eaze locations (one in San Diego), or as they’re called, Depots. The vast majority of the workers are delivery drivers. They use their own vehicles, braving the roads day in and day out to ensure customers receive their orders promptly and safely.

Yet, despite their crucial role in the company’s operations, they face numerous challenges and hazards on the job. The risks of violence, theft, and auto accidents loom large, yet their current compensation fails to adequately address these concerns. The meager mileage reimbursement provided falls short of covering gas, maintenance, and the wear and tear on vehicles. It’s high time Eaze recognized the true cost of their labor and raised the reimbursement to the IRS Mileage Rate standard.

Moreover, living in California, one of the most expensive states in the country, demands fair compensation. The base pay must reflect the soaring cost of living, ensuring that drivers and Depot workers can support themselves and their families without undue financial strain.

That’s why over 90% of active members in San Diego, alongside hundreds more across the state, have signed a petition in support of the top demands. The workers are not merely asking for fair treatment; They are prepared to take action, up to and including a strike, to secure a better future for themselves and their fellow workers across this growing industry.

Eaze prides itself on convenience and efficiency, yet it cannot achieve these without the dedication and hard work of its employees. They are the backbone of this company, and they deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness.

To Eaze CEO and management: the time for negotiation is now! The workers are united and will not back down until their fair demands are met. These devoted cannabis workers stand together, stronger than ever, ready to fight for the just contract they have earned through their work and dedication to this company.

Grant Tom is Secretary-Treasurer of UFCW Local 135 and one of the negotiators of the Eaze contract. As San Diego’s cannabis union, UFCW Local 135 represents over 12,000 workers total with almost 400 in the cannabis industry at Eaze, March and Ash, Pacabol, Stiiizy, MedMen, and soon at Harbor Collective and Torrey Holistics.
